Josh Arnold is a uniquely determined social entrepreneur with a steadfast passion for building healthy and resilient communities…

Right in his backyard in Silver Lake, NH – that’s where Josh first developed a love for nature, community, and creativity.  Every day as a boy was filled with adventures in the pine grove, balancing acts on the railroad tracks, acrobats off the rope swing, or escapes down to the beaver pond.

After graduating from Wheaton College where he majored in Global Sustainability, Josh spent several years trying on various career and community “hats” – recycling manager at some of the largest music festivals in the United States, youth delegate for the UN Commission on Sustainable Development, and various town committee roles related to energy conservation, agriculture, and historic preservation.  He also put in a fair share of time waiting tables, landscaping, and piecing together odd jobs.

Then, in 2006, with support from a wide network of friends, family, and colleagues, he founded Global Awareness Local Action (G.A.L.A.)  G.A.L.A. started with a home office out of his parent’s basement in Wolfeboro, NH.  The rest is history.

In 2008 Josh went out on a limb and bought the former Ossipee Mt. Grange Hall, where he moved in and made home.  He and his wife Molly Messenger lived in the Grange Hall for about ten years while rehabilitating a farmhouse next door where they now reside with their one-year-old daughter, Wren.  Their long-term vision for the former Grange is to revitalize it as a general store on the first floor, with an artist residency and community events on the upper two floors.  Never a dull day.

Josh is a Youth Action Net Fellow, Whole Communities Fellow, Graduate of the Marlboro College Nonprofit Management Certificate Program, Granite State College Nonprofit Boot Camp, Advisory Board Member of the Graduation Pledge, Certified in Permaculture Design, Carsey Fellow through NH Listens, Leadership NH class of 2017 alum, and Commissioner for the Ossipee Corner Fire Dept.

Josh loves live music, drawing, growing food, preserving food, looking up at the stars while hanging out around a bonfire with friends, hiking, biking, swimming, and tinkering in the barn on whatever project is calling his name.
