Elena Piekut is a native of Effingham, NH, where her parents still reside on the small homestead they built.
She studied at Sarah Lawrence College in Bronxville, NY and College of the Atlantic in Bar Harbor, ME, earning a BA in Human Ecology with focuses in writing and community planning and development. While part of the Bar Harbor community, Elena spent three years helping to grow an independent, organic and natural health food store and cafe. In 2012, she began her professional planning career with the City of Ellsworth, ME, Acadia National Park's gateway city. For the past four years she has been Assistant City Planner and Zoning Administrator for the City of Dover, NH, where she provides support to the Dover Energy Commission and has become well-networked with municipal sustainability and renewable energy efforts throughout the state and New England. Elena is a member of the Board of Directors of Dover Main Street and brings additional nonprofit experience from work with the Green Mountain Conservation Group, Heart of Ellsworth, and a startup artists' collective on Mount Desert Island. She lives in "downtown" Rollinsford, NH.
