There’s something timeless about a painted landscape — the way color, light, and brushstrokes can capture the feeling of a place. This September, Makers Mill is excited to host its first-ever oil painting class, a two-session workshop, where you can learn to create your own landscapes and lakescapes under the guidance of artist and teacher Ann Xavier.
What You’ll Learn
Over the course of two Saturday sessions — September 13 and 20 — Ann will share step-by-step techniques that make oil painting approachable for beginners while still offering depth for those with some experience. You’ll explore:
- How to mix colors that bring a scene to life
- Brushwork for texture and detail
- Composition “tricks of the trade” that draw the viewer in
By the end of the second class, you’ll finish a 12″ x 16″ canvas of your own and take home a starter set of supplies so you can keep painting.
Why Take This Class?
Oil painting can feel intimidating, but Ann creates a relaxed, supportive environment where students of all levels can succeed. Whether you’re brand new to oils or looking to build on past experience, this class is a chance to slow down, focus on your art, and come away with both skills and confidence. And since this is the first time oil painting has been offered at Makers Mill, it’s a special opportunity to be part of something new.
