Makers Mill Showcases Winter and Spring Jewelry-Making Classes

There is something deeply satisfying about creating jewelry by hand — shaping metal, working with fire, experimenting with texture, and leaving with something you can wear every day.

This winter and early spring, Makers Mill is offering a series of hands-on jewelry-making classes in the Jewelry & Metalsmithing Shop, led by skilled local instructor Deborah Ryan and nationally recognized metalsmith Joy Raskin. Each class welcomes beginners while offering enough depth to inspire returning students.

Unisex Overlay Cuff Bracelet

Saturday, February 21 | 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Deborah Ryan begins the lineup with a class rooted in Makers Mill’s philosophy of reuse and accessibility. Students will work with brass and copper as beautiful and affordable alternatives to silver and gold. Using reclaimed and scrap metal, often leftover from other projects, participants will learn how to transform simple materials into striking wearable art.

The design is intentionally all-gender and welcoming to anyone interested in building foundational metalsmithing skills.

Stacking Rings

Saturday, February 28 | 12:00 to 3:00 p.m.

In this expanded and refreshed workshop, students will learn to work with fire using an acetylene air torch to create and texture a set of stacking rings. New elements include the option to add bezel-set gemstones, offering creative flexibility for both new and returning students.

This class offers a thoughtful introduction to torch work in a supportive environment.
