Homesteading Skills Take Center Stage at Makers Mill April 25–27

Makers Mill is returning to its roots this spring with a weekend packed full of hands-on homesteading classes designed to empower individuals, strengthen community ties, and promote sustainable living. From April 25–27, 2025, the community makerspace in Wolfeboro, NH will host a curated lineup of workshops for anyone looking to learn practical skills and reconnect with traditional practices.

Why Homesteading? Homesteading isn’t just a trend—it’s a lifestyle rooted in self-reliance, resilience, and sustainability. At Makers Mill, we believe these values are more relevant than ever. Whether you’re a beginner looking to get started or a seasoned DIYer expanding your skillset, this weekend is designed to offer something for everyone.

All homesteading classes are taught by Robert “Doc” Dougherty, a lifelong homesteader and skilled tradesman whose 40+ years of experience make him a trusted guide for all things self-sufficiency. From livestock and gardening to plumbing and small engine repair, Doc brings real-world expertise and a passion for teaching.

“Makers Mill was founded on the idea that community is built when people share skills, knowledge, and purpose,” says program director Carol Holyoake. “This homesteading weekend is a chance to reconnect with those roots, meet neighbors, and leave with real tools for sustainable living.”

But the Homesteading Classes Don’t End There! We’re always offering new opportunities to learn and grow—check out our Events Calendar for a full list of upcoming classes and workshops. Our classes aren’t just for homesteaders—we offer something for makers, artists, crafters, and curious learners of all kinds.
