Discover the range and richness of printmaking! In this class, the instructor will discuss an overview of several techniques used by printmakers and how they differ from one another. Learn about monoprinting, block and wood printing, etching, and lithography, and what tools each requires and the types of results you can achieve with them.
After this overview, we will dive into hands-on practice for Linoblock printing. You will design, carve, and print your own 4" × 6" linoleum block using our Dick Blick 999 printing press. Students should bring a simple, 4” x 6” graphic design idea.
No experience is required — your instructor will demonstrate each step and offer as much
guidance as you’d like. You’ll leave with a foundational understanding of printmaking plus prints of your own original
design!
Students may opt to do a Tool Safety Assessment (TSA) on the printing press after class so you are
allowed to use the press on your own. There is no extra fee to do this. If you are successfully
approved, this will give you independent use on the press as a Maker Plus Member or with a
Day Pass.
