Leather 101: Dog Collar & Leash

3/21/2026 from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM ET

This introductory leatherworking class focuses on learning the fundamentals of working with leather. We’ll cover the basics of leather types, hide weights, and tanning processes, giving you a solid foundation for future projects.

For our hands-on project, you’ll create a leather dog collar and leash using high-quality English Bridle leather and solid brass hardware. Along the way, you’ll learn to use traditional leather hand tools and practice essential skills, including cutting leather, edging, edge dyeing, burnishing, setting rivets, and adding simple embellishments.

No prior leatherworking experience is required — this is a great first step into the craft.

Students should bring the measurement of their dog's neck or an old collar.
