Learn the overlay technique, originated by the Hopis, to design and create your own wide cuff bracelet in this skills-intensive class for all genders. Overlay involves cutting a design into a sheet of metal, soldering it onto a back piece, then adding patina to make the top design stand out. Skills learned include using the jeweler's saw, flex shaft, buffer, and acetylene torch to solder. Due to the high cost of silver, we will work primarily in copper and brass, but silver will also be available.
Prerequisite: Students must have taken at least 1 metalsmithing class previously; some basic familiarity with the jewelers' saw and acetylene torch is recommended. This is not a beginner’s class.
