Make It Fit CANX

3/5/2023 from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM ET

This is class #2 in a 3-part series called “Reinvigorate Your Closet”. Take one or all classes - your choice.  Class #1 is Mend It on February 19, and Class #3 is Minding Your Knits on March 19.

We all have clothes in our closets that don’t get worn while other pieces are in constant rotation.  The difference between our favorites and the ones that stay on the hanger is often fit.  Clothing that we liked enough to purchase, especially online, may need adjustments to become a flattering fashion.  In this workshop we will define fit issues and cover ways to reactivate the garment by altering the fit.  This can be great for someone who has lost or gained weight, or who has garments that need to be lengthened or shortened.  The concepts covered can even help future shopping decisions.

Workshop participants are encouraged to come with questions and should bring their problem garments.  This is NOT a how to fit a sewing pattern for new construction, but how to alter existing garments.

Location:  Makers Mill Fiber Arts space, second floor accessible via stairs and elevator

Instructor:  Cindy Durkee
Cindy has a love of sewing that began as a child.  She studied at  Pratt Institute in New York City earning a BFA in Fashion Design.  Years of work as a designer in the garment industry enhanced her knowledge of professional construction techniques, patternmaking and  fitting, and sewing shortcuts.  She has designed and produced clothing, theater costumes, large banner installations, commercial retail displays, décor items, as well as 3- D stuffed toys and dolls.  She sees learning to sew as both a handy life-skill and as a technique for creative expression.

Assistant:  Jeanne Flanagan

Jeanne grew up in a creative family that made everything from clothes to go-carts.  Here at Makers Mill, Jeanne wears several hats as the Leader on our Fiber Arts Circle and as an instructor. Jeanne has been a makerspace instructor for many years in MA and has a wealth of knowledge about fiber arts.

“Makers Mill nourishes that hands-on, inquiring mind and I am so happy to be teaching and learning at the makerspace where we can inspire people to create for themselves.”
