Intro to Laser Technology

This class is offered on two separate dates:  Monday, Nov 28, 4-6 PM and Monday, Dec 12, 7-9 PM

Laser Technology crosses many disciplines: manufacturing, graphics, material processing, CAD/CAM, entrepreneurship, and art. In this class you will be exposed to the following.

How to create a simple file using Inkscape Software:

  • What is a raster object

  • What is a vector object

  • When to choose a raster object vs. a vector object

How to do basic manipulation of objects:

  •  transforming 

  •  resizing

  •  editing

Prepping the laser to receive your file

Safety of the laser

Basic maintenance of laser

Selection of material

Running of file

At the end of this class the student should be able to safely operate the laser to cut and engrave a simple design into wood. 

This introductory class is required before using the laser independently and before Class #2 Laser Technology

Location:  Makers Mill, 2nd floor conference room accessible via stairs and elevator

Registration Fee:  Non-members $55, Members $50
Materials Fee:  $15 

Class size:  minimum 2, maximum 4     Age:  18+
Non-members will be sent a Liability Waiver to sign in advance of the class.

Instructor:  Bob Levin

Bob has been a teacher of photography and graphic design for over 40 years. He has worked as a corporate trainer for various companies teaching software and hardware. For the past 15 years, Bob has been teaching Laser Technology and how it can be used to engrave and cut into various materials for the hobbyist and entrepreneur.
