Tool Safety Class: Woodshop Level 1

12/3/2022 starting 12/03/22 from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM ET

Makers Mill Tool Safety Classes are required in most shops as a prerequisite for using the space and tools independently.  They provide basic skill and safety training on specific tools. Our safety classes are intended to ensure our members understand not only how to use tools, but also how to clean up the area, care for the tool, what to do when something goes wrong with the tool, and how to be a steward of the tool and shop. These important aspects of our Tool Safety Classes are intentionally designed to foster collaborative stewardship and increases the lifespan of our shared tools.

In this Level 1 class students will learn how to safely use the powered stationary and powered hand tools in our woodshop:

  • Table saws: Delta saw, Sawstop,
  • Miter/chop saw
  • Circular saw
  • Jig saw
  • Band saw
  • Scroll saw
  • Router
  • Hawk Multifunction Planer
  • Oneida dust collection system

A separate Level 2 Woodshop Tool Safety Class will cover the Delta planer, drill press, mortiser, belt sander, power planer, and plate joiner. Also, there is a separate, dedicated training class for the CNC router. Check the website calendar for the Level 2 Class dates and time.
