Light Filled Still Life Painting – A Simple Path: A Two-Day Workshop with Debbie Mueller

Do you ever feel stuck in the middle of a painting, unsure of what to do next? Are you a painter who’s learned some of the basics—values, color mixing, brushwork—but still feels overwhelmed by all the decisions involved in creating a finished piece?

Join award-winning artist Debbie Mueller at Makers Mill in Wolfeboro, NH, for a transformative two-day workshop:
“Light Filled Still Life Painting – A Simple Path.”
This workshop takes place Saturday and Sunday, May 17 & 18, 2025, from 9 AM to 4 PM, and is designed for early to intermediate level painters who want a clear and supportive path forward in their painting practice.

A Simple, Supportive Structure for Painters

In this immersive workshop, Debbie breaks down the painting process into clear, manageable parts—Idea, Design, Drawing, Value, Color Mixing, Brushwork, and Edges—allowing you to focus on one decision at a time instead of everything all at once. You’ll walk away with two completed paintings, deeper confidence in your skills, and techniques that can be applied to still life, landscapes, portraits, and more.

What to Expect Over Two Days

  • Day 1 begins with introductions and an exploration of the first four steps of painting: idea, design, drawing, and value. After a short demo, students will begin their own paintings with guidance from Debbie. In the afternoon, students learn about color mixing, brushwork, and edge control, then apply those concepts in their work.
  • Day 2 opens with a full painting demo by Debbie to reinforce the process in real time. Students will then work on their own paintings throughout the day with personalized instruction. A mid-day break includes a short, inspiring artist presentation.

The workshop is primarily focused on oil painting, but acrylics and gouache are welcome. Students should bring their own materials (a full supply list is provided on the registration page), and some painting experience is recommended.
